RAVEN "STAYING WARM"
This oil painting depicts a Raven on the Skagit River in winter staying warm by fluffing it's feathers.
Ravens can be found "sharing" with Eagles especially when feeding on salmon in the winter
on the Skagit River in northwest Washington State.

All along the river Bald Eagles migrate from as far as Alaska. I live very close to the Skagit river which fills from the northwest Cascades and empties into the Puget Sound. A "float" down river is a magical scene with mist rising in the mornings from the snow and frost, giving way to eagles roosting in the Alders along the water's edge for miles and miles.

After layering my images in Photoshop, I draw the composition directly
on the stretched linen using an HB pencil.
I seal the drawing with a thin coat of acrylic picking up a basic ground color of the subject.
I am ready to start with many layers of oils to complete the painting.
